Nexium 40mg/60mg delayed release tablet contains esomeprazole magnesium, a proton pump inhibitor. It is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is an effective medication for people with GERD who are at risk of developing heartburn. Esomeprazole magnesium belongs to a group of medications called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by blocking the proton pump, thus helping to restore the normal acid production in the stomach.
It is available in the form of a delayed release tablet. The esomeprazole magnesium in Nexium 40mg/60mg delayed release tablet is taken once a day with or without food. The delayed release tablet should be taken three times a day.
The active ingredient in the delayed release tablet is esomeprazole magnesium (as magnesium trihydrate).
Take the tablet by mouth as directed by your doctor. Do not crush, chew or break the delayed release tablet. The tablet should be swallowed whole.
